Hi, everyone. My name is Meream and I will be helping out here on Ecka & Pecka starting today. I’m happy to be here.
Let me tell you about the time I met my grandmother’s sewing machine. I was seven. It was a summer of the pure red hibiscus (I’m from the Philippines, by the way) and lazy hammock rides. It was the summer I followed my grandmother everywhere. Her sewing machine was dusty, rusty, and older than anything that I’ve ever seen in my 7-year existence. It was the hand crank type and perhaps the most beautiful thing in my grandmother’s house.
While I did want the sewing machine simply because it looked like a cool toy, it’s amusing to realize that almost every pastime I’ve ever truly enjoyed until today involves making something.
Today, I sew, make jewelry, make miniatures, and dabble in DIY home decor. I collect scrapbook paper, stickers, fabric, illustrations, beads, rubber stamps, buttons, Japanese craft magazines, and sewing-themed jewelry. My current projects include a satin rosette belt, a miniature haunted room, a jewelry holder made of plastic animal toys, curtains, and an occult-themed mobile. I have a bet with myself on what project I’ll be able to finish first but I’ll most likely lose.
When I’m not making something, I spend time with my 4 cats, watch Breaking Bad or The Newsroom, write, drool over pretty things on Etsy (fave shops: River Luna, Lunaticart, Artquirk, Blackbird and the Owl, Edor, Glazed Over Pottery) or Pinterest, take photos, or go thrift shopping.
I can’t live without coffee.
